.The Hayloft is a quiet, self-contained retreat set within the rolling countryside of Herefordshire, in the heart of the Wye Valley near the village of Bredwardine. Just six miles from the book-lined streets of Hay-on-Wye, this part of the county is known for its orchards, soft fruit, and wide skies — a landscape that naturally encourages you to slow down and reset.
This area of the Wye Valley is deeply connected to the river itself. The River Wye winds through nearby Bredwardine, Moccas, and towards Hay-on-Wye, shaping both the land and the pace of life here. It is a much-loved river for angling and wildlife, with carefully managed stretches that protect its ecology and character. Even for those who never cast a line, there is something grounding about being close to a river that has sustained communities, nature, and quiet traditions for centuries.
The Hayloft is not about excess or distraction. It is about comfort, simplicity, and space — a place to rest well, think clearly, and reconnect with the rhythms of the natural world. Whether enjoyed as a peaceful base for exploring the Wye Valley or simply as somewhere to pause, it reflects the essence of this landscape: gentle, timeless, and quietly restorative.
The Hayloft is arranged as a suite of rooms. One houses a traditional four-poster bed, positioned to look out across the surrounding countryside, where mornings begin with birdsong and shifting light over the fields. The second room (check options) offers a comfortable seating area with a sofa bed and a simple kitchenette, including a small fridge, microwave, toaster, and tea- and coffee-making facilities — everything needed for easy, unhurried living. A modern bathroom with both a bath and a walk-in shower completes the space, offering the choice of a long soak or a refreshing start to the day.
Check-in is from 3:00 PM, and check-out is at 11:00 AM. If you require different times, please contact us in advance, and we’ll do our best to accommodate.
Yes, complimentary parking is available on-site for all guests to ensure convenience and ease during your stay.
There are several places to eat nearby, with options within 1–3 miles of The Hayloft, as well as a wider choice of restaurants, cafés, and coffee shops in Hay-on-Wye, approximately 6 miles away.
The Red Lion pub is around 1 mile from the property and is a traditional local pub, popular with anglers and well known for its riverside setting. The Castlefields, approximately 2.5 miles away on the route towards Hay-on-Wye, offers another relaxed pub dining option. Brobury House, located just over Bredwardine Bridge, is renowned for its food and its beautiful gardens.
Beautiful property in very peaceful location. We had a lovely, restful night and we highly recommend a stay here. Lots to see and do in the local area and we hope to return!
Delightful stay. Clear instructions. Immaculately laid out apartment. All the amenities we could ever want. Plus some nice extra touches made us feel right at home and somewhere special at the same time. Luxurious bathroom. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
A real gem! Karen's place is extremely comfortable and quite unique: an apartment contained within a larger house, with its own private staircase/access up to one big bedroom with a large four poster bed and seating, a roomy bathroom with a separate bathtub and powerful shower, and a second smaller room which was made up with a comfy sofa bed and tea and coffee making kit. It was spotlessly clean and had everything you need. The location is gorgeous and rural, though only a 10 minute drive from Hay-on-Wye. Communication with Karen was super easy and the check-in process simple with a lock box. Karen was very accommodating and flexible when I made an error with the booking as well. Highly recommended.
