Angling Stays on The River Wye

The Hayloft sits about a mile from the centre of Bredwardine, a Herefordshire village set right beside the River Wye, a stretch whose name carries real weight in British angling circles. It's the perfect base for dedicated, multi-day angling stays and extended Angling Escapades.

The Wye was once considered one of the finest salmon rivers in Britain, and at its peak rod catches exceeded 7,000 fish a year. The beats around Bredwardine and neighbouring Moccas drew anglers from across the country and beyond.

When salmon numbers fell sharply, attention on this part of the Wye turned to coarse angling, specifically barbel. By the mid-1990s, the middle Wye around Bredwardine had become the river's first real barbel angling hotspot. It's still regarded as one of the premier coarse fishing destinations in the country, with double-figure fish caught by visiting anglers every season during their multi-day Angling Escapades.

    Complimentary Passes

Our Angling Guests (max of two) staying at The Hayloft, receive complimentary access to Letton Court Fisheries, a celebrated coarse angling fishery on this stretch of the river. Each session runs from the day of arrival, (from 1500hrs to day of departure at 1500hrs).

Set within a historic estate, Letton Court Fisheries offers 1.5 miles of deep pools, golden-gravel shallows and extensive riffles on the left bank of the Wye. There is not a defined peg in sight, just breathtaking views across the Bredwardine Hills, specimen fish, and exceptional wildlife.
